Our Story

We built this because
we needed it ourselves.

DigitalWorldAB started with a simple problem: the tools available to self-employed professionals were either too generic to be useful or too complex to be worth the setup. We documented the failure modes, built better tools, and kept going. This is where that journey has led.

The tools were failing. Not the people using them.

The first templates we used as self-employed professionals were the same ones everyone uses — downloaded from a blog post, built by someone who had never run a freelance business, tested on sample data that looked nothing like real client work. They looked professional. They fell apart immediately.

Broken formulas when invoice numbers exceeded whatever arbitrary range the builder had assumed. No input validation, so one wrong entry would corrupt a month of records. No protection on formula cells, so an accidental overwrite would take hours to diagnose. No documentation, so when something went wrong there was no reference for what was supposed to happen.

We stopped looking for better templates and started documenting exactly why the existing ones failed. That documentation became the foundation for everything DigitalWorldAB has built since.

We engineered around the failure modes.

The pivot was not to build nicer-looking templates. It was to build templates that could not fail in the ways the generic ones did. Data validation on every input. VBA macros in Excel and Apps Script in Google Sheets to handle automation. Sheet protection on every formula cell. Error handling built into the architecture from the start, not bolted on at the end.

Every template now moves through a five-stage production pipeline before it ships: problem definition, data architecture, automation layer, defensive engineering, and documentation. No stage advances until its deliverables meet specification. This is not how template sellers typically work. It is how software engineers work. We applied that standard to spreadsheets.

The result is a template that works under real conditions, with real data, operated by someone who has never seen it before.

The next problem

A better template is still a passive tool.

Semi-automated templates solved the reliability problem. They did not solve the vigilance problem. Even the best template still requires you to open it, enter data, run the report, and remember to check the outputs. The operational intelligence only flows one way — from you into the tool. The tool never tells you what it found.

That is the problem the DWAB platform is built to solve. Not a better template. A different layer entirely — one that monitors your business continuously, applies AI analysis to every record, and surfaces what requires your attention before it becomes a problem. The research that produced the templates produced the platform. The failure modes are the same. The solution is more complete.

What we stand for

Four things we do not compromise on.

Precision

Every formula is documented. Every validation rule is intentional. Every edge case is handled. We do not ship guesswork.

Honesty

We do not pad feature lists. If a template solves three specific problems well, we tell you exactly what those three problems are. If it does not solve your problem, we will tell you that too.

Craftsmanship

The five-stage pipeline is not a marketing claim. It is the actual process every template moves through. The documentation exists. The architecture decisions are recorded. The defensive engineering is verifiable.

Support

Questions after purchase are answered by the person who built the template. Real replies. No automated responses. No support ticket queue.

Where we are going

Templates today. Platform tomorrow.

DigitalWorldAB operates in two layers simultaneously. The template library is available now — production-grade tools for freelancers and small business owners, sold through our Etsy shop. The DWAB SaaS platform is in development — an AI-powered operations system built on verified research into the persistent problems that templates cannot fully solve.

Available Now

Excel & Google Sheets Templates

Three templates currently available. Each built to the five-stage pipeline. Excel 365 with VBA and Google Sheets with Apps Script. Purpose-built for US freelancers and small business owners.
